  • School Day

At Plat Douet School, we believe that clear routines help children feel safe, confident and ready to learn. We work closely with families to make sure every child starts the day smoothly and ends it safely. Below is a guide to help you understand our daily routines and expectations.

    Start of the Day

    • Gates open: 8:30am
Children should not arrive earlier than this time, as staff supervision is not in place until the gates open.
    • Classroom doors open: 8:30am
Children go straight into class to begin their day. Early learning activities or morning challenges are ready for them, helping them settle into the learning routine.
    • Gates close: 8:45am
Children arriving after this time must report to the school office via the main entrance and will be marked as late.
Arriving on time helps children feel confident and ensures they don’t miss valuable learning time.
    • If your child is absent, please call the school office before 8.45am to let us know the reason.

    Lunchtimes

    • Nursery & Reception: 12:30pm - 1:30pm
    • Key Stage 1 and 2: 12:30pm – 1:30pm
      • Children have 20 minutes to eat their lunch and 40 minutes of playtime.  However, if your child is a slow eater, they will be able to spend more time in the hall.
      • We encourage healthy eating and good manners, and our lunchtime supervisors support children with both.

Hot lunches are available to order via ParentPay (free for Jersey Premium children).

    End of the Day

    • School finishes:
      • Nursery - 2:45pm
      • Reception - 2:55pm
      • Years 1 - Years 6 - 3:00pm
    • From Nursery to Y4 parents must collect their child from the classroom door.  Please be patient during collection as we ensure each child goes home safely.
    • Children in Y5/6 may walk home if permission is given in writing to the main office.

If you are running late, please call the school office so we can reassure your child.

    Communicating with Staff

    • Quick messages (e.g. changes to collection or minor concerns) can be passed on to your child’s class teacher at the door or to the staff in the school office.
    • For longer conversations or meetings, please contact the office to arrange a convenient time to speak with your child’s teacher or a member of the leadership team.
    • Teachers are not able to take messages during teaching time, so we kindly ask that all queries after drop-off go through the school office.

We value strong home-school communication — please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have questions, concerns, or good news to share.

    Collection and Safety

Our children’s safety is our highest priority.

    • Children will only be released to adults who are known to staff or previously authorised by parents/carers.
    • If a different adult is collecting your child, please let us know in writing (a note or message) or call the office in advance.
    • If staff are unsure, we will keep your child safely with us and contact you to confirm.

We cannot release children to any adult without prior authorisation.

    Walking Home

We support the growing independence of our older pupils while keeping safety as our priority.

    • Year 5 and 6 pupils may walk home on their own only with written permission from a parent or carer.   You can request a form from the office to give this consent.
    • Pupils with permission to walk home may not take younger siblings with them.
    • Children in Year 4 and below must be collected by a known adult.

Even with permission, we advise families to talk with their child about road safety and safe walking routes.

    Supporting Your Child’s Day

    • Water bottles: Please ensure your child has a named water bottle in school each day.
    • Uniform: Full school uniform is expected daily unless it is a PE day.
    • PE/Dance days: On these days, children should come to school in their PE kit.
    • Lost property: Please label all belongings clearly with your child’s name so they can be returned easily.

If you are ever unsure about routines, timings, or procedures, please ask a member of staff or contact the school office. We’re always happy to help!
