Year 5

In Year 5, the children will be taught by Miss WilliamsMrs. Johnson, and Miss Troy. Throughout the year, they will focus on a variety of subjects with key expectations in mind. In English, they will explore different genres, improve their writing through grammar and composition skills, and learn new vocabulary such as synonyms, figurative language, and imperative verbs. In Maths, students will develop fluency, reasoning, and problem-solving abilities, with a strong emphasis on daily practice of times tables. In Science, they'll investigate materials and changes of state through practical activities. The Romans will be the focus of their History studies, where they'll explore Roman life, armies, and Jersey’s connection to ancient Rome. They will also learn coding, presentations, and video editing in Computing, and develop artistic skills inspired by Roman themes and Jean-Michel Basquiat. French and Spanish will be taught weekly by Mrs. Morrison and Miss Lopez, respectively. Students will have PE twice a week, focusing on sports like dodgeball, tchoukball, and table tennis. Lastly, there will be a parent sharing lesson where families can get involved in their child's learning.

The children are expected to take responsibility for their own learning, whether that’s reading daily, practicing spellings, or completing maths activities at home. Healthy snacks, suitable clothing, and a well-maintained uniform are also important for their well-being.
