The pupils at Plat Douet School have been working very hard to design and produce recycled products to sell. All pupils from Nursery up to Year 6 took part in the Eco event which took place in February. Each Year group worked together over the course of a week to create a variety of interesting products from bottle flippers to magnets, bird houses to necklaces.
The aim was to encourage the pupils and their families to be more aware of the waste that they throw away and the importance of reusing materials where possible, as well as recycling. Pupils were very enthusiastic about the project and took great care and pride in their work.
Plat Douet School is currently in the process of applying for their ‘Green Flag’ status to show that we are and Eco friendly school. As part of their work to help the environment a committee meet every half term to discuss Eco issues in the school. The idea for the recycled sale came from the pupils on the Eco committee who wanted to the whole school community involved in making changes to reduce our impact on the environment.
Once the pupils had created their products they set up market stalls in the school hall to sell their creations. The young entrepreneurs were in charge of setting up the stalls and selling the products. It proved to be a very popular event as the hall was filled with parents, grandparents and pupils wanting to buy the items on sale. The sale raised £364 in total, which will go towards improving the school grounds, particularly the Key Stage 1 playground.
